Engineers is pleased to be a part of community volunteer
events and service efforts that make a difference in the lives of others while making a lasting difference in the lives of our employees. In fact, the majority of our service projects are identified and planned by members of Team Wright, independent of company directive. Not only do we believe in giving back to the community on a corporate level but, perhaps most satisfyingly, on an individual level.

bridge over fossil creek Waters
 |
The Santiago Oaks Regional Park of Orange County, California, endured harsh winter floods this winter that severely damaged a footbridge for a popular hiking trail. Found over Fossil Creek, the bridge was stripped of it's protective railings and much of the original walkway, leaving a dangerous drop to the water below.
Our staff in Irvine responded quickly by organizing an all-day service project to rebuild the bridge. Supplies were graciously donated by Ganahl Lumbar and |
approximately 50 man-hours were given by members of Team Wright to complete the project.
Wade Stitcht, structural project manager, organized this service activity. "It was fulfilling to play a key part in reopening a very popular trailhead that had been inaccessible since winter floods severely damaged the bridge. We had several hikers stop to thank us for the work we were doing. They were really excited to have access to the trail!" he said.

It has been reported there are a few more park bridges out there in need of a little Wright TLC...

11th Annual Desert Cleanup
 |
Hosted by the Associated General Contractors, the 11th Annual Operation Desert Cleanup is an event that allows companies to help keep the Las Vegas Valley tidy. This year’s project was a 20-acre parcel of land at the intersection of Pyle and Spencer in Henderson. Saturday morning, April 2nd, several members of Team Wright accompanied by many other Las Vegas companies converged on the site to pick up all of the trash -- from old batteries to discarded notebooks. |
The project proved to be a very rewarding experience.
“This opportunity reminded me of the fact that when you serve, you end up receiving a far greater reward than those you are serving. It was an incredible experience for the whole family,” said MEP CAD Technician, Pavel Molina.
Dawn McLain from Carpenter Sellers Architects and the AGC expressed gratitude for the service rendered, noting that this area was especially important to Clark County since it is zoned for a future school. |

Thanksgiving In August
 |
True expressions of “Thanks” resonated
from both the recipients and contributors of a recent service project that was
sponsored by Wright Engineers. Heather Johnson, Structural CAD Designer, spearheaded
a plan to provide hygiene kits, food, and clothing for the homeless of Las Vegas.
Rounding up a willing and excited group of volunteers
from Wright's finest was not a difficult task for Heather as she had |
plenty of takers
who worked after-hours to prepare 50 hygiene kits, 100 lunches and a collection of
donated clothing. With three fully loaded trucks arriving, the homeless wholeheartedly
welcomed the goods that were delivered on Saturday, August 14th. One of the highlights may have happened when all of the Wright Engineers baseball caps had been given out and a homeless person was looking a little sad because he didn't get one.

One of our volunteers, noticing his disappointment, took the hat off his own head and gave it to him. Of course, this brought a smile to everyone's face. |

8th Annual Inner-Coastal Cleanup Day
September 18, 2004 marked the 8th Annual Inner-Costal Cleanup Day for Southern California. Each year, the event is held in conjunction with the Coastal Cleanup Day, in which areas up-stream from Southern California's beaches are picked up by local volunteers.
 |
The projects tackled by volunteers included 27 different locations with up to 8 of the 13 watershed areas in and around Orange County. With 2,434 volunteers, the clean-up day accounted for over 52,000 lbs. of trash and more than 5,000 lbs. of recyclable materials.
Our Irvine office worked with their families along side residents at the San Diego Creek—just a few miles from our office. "We were even able to find some structural trash—a cut-end from a wide flange beam," said Principal/Partner, Scott Jones.

Special Olympics Volunteers - 2007
Several Wright Engineers Team Members took advantage of the opportunity to participate as volunteers in the 2007 Special Olympics Nevada State Summer Games. Human Resources Coordinator Anjuli Wright organized our company's involvement in the games, and we're glad that she did. A total of 22 Wright staff and family members participated in supporting roles for the May 19th events.
Jane Moore, Administrative Coordinator in our Civil Department, thoroughly enjoyed volunteering with the Special Olympics for her second time. "I find it very rewarding to see the delight on the faces of the participants as they cross the finish line. Regardless of whether they are first or last, it is a wonderful experience for them all, “she said, adding that she plans on volunteering again in the future.

FEMA Emergency Response Volunteers

The
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has organized
teams of specialists including engineers who can respond
quickly to disasters such as floods, hurricanes, earthquakes,
and terrorist attacks. Several of our staff are among
the volunteer structural specialists on the Las Vegas
FEMA response team, Nevada Task Force 1. Structural specialist volunteers
provide engineering assistance at such sites as the
World Trade Center disaster in 2001 and the 2005 hurricane ravaged areas of the Gulf Coast.
FEMA response teams are prepared to be deployed to the
scene of a disaster within one day and immediately assist
the local disaster relief and rescue efforts. The role
of the structural specialist is to inspect and monitor
structures for conditions that could endanger the rescuers
and victims.

Wright Engineers C.A.R.E.’s

Wright Engineers is one of two Las Vegas
engineering firms chosen to team with the AGC Las Vegas
Chapter as structural engineering specialists on the
newly organized CARE (Contractors Assisting Rescue Efforts)
Unit. The CARE Unit was unveiled at a September 11th
press conference at the Clark County Fire Department's
Training Center on Tropicana and Arville. At the request
of the CCFD, the AGC assembled a team of member companies
to assist the Clark County Fire Department in times
of emergency, natural disaster, and any matter affecting
homeland security. The Unit will provide its expertise,
skilled labor, heavy equipment, and transportation resources
at a moment's notice to assist the men and women of
the fire department in performing their life-saving
functions.
